Free community group nutrition education talks and Fitness Class, plus low cost food demo courses

At HealthyU Nutrition, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing chronic health conditions through skill and knowledge building, community and peer engagement, and guided group discussion. We've partnered with Happy Valley Parks and Recreation to offer cooking demos and nutrition talks.

Nutrition and Lifestyle for Gut Health

Tuesday, January 20 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Discover how small changes in your diet and lifestyle can make a significant difference in your digestion and overall well-being. In this engaging community class, we’ll discuss how nutrition, stress, sleep, hydration, and movement all play a role in maintaining a healthy gut.

You’ll learn:

• How the gut microbiome supports digestion, immunity, and mood

• Foods that promote gut balance and those that may cause discomfort

• The role of fiber, probiotics, and prebiotics in a healthy diet

• Simple lifestyle habits—like mindful eating and stress management—that support gut health

• Practical, everyday tips to help you feel your best

Leave with easy, evidence-based strategies and a handout full of gut-friendly meals and lifestyle ideas you can start using right away!

Format:

Interactive presentation, group discussion, & Q&A.

No prior knowledge required – just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn!

Grocery Store Tour

Tuesday, March 10th from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Location TBA - local grocery store in the Clackamas/Happy Valley

A hands-on grocery store tour led by Cary Cuevas, RDN, LD, CMES, to help you navigate labels, choose nourishing foods, and shop smarter with confidence—while honoring taste, culture, budget, and health needs.

  • Nutrition for Perimenopause and Menopause - Perimenopause and menopause are not problems to fix—but transitions to support. This course helps you understand how to use nutrition and diet to feel stronger, more energized, and more at ease during this stage of life.

  • The Art of Mindful Eating - Slow down, tune in, and reconnect with your body. This mindful eating class focuses on noticing hunger and fullness cues, eating with intention, and reducing guilt and distraction around food using simple, realistic tools.

  • Les Mills BodyBalance™ 

Every Thursday Morning from 7:30 AM to 8:15 AM

​​LES MILLS BODYBALANCE™ is a mind–body fitness class that blends yoga, Tai Chi, and Pilates to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and relaxation. Set to calming music, the class focuses on controlled movement, breathing, and mindfulness, helping participants build strength while reducing stress and improving overall well-being.​​

  • Les Mills BodyCombat™

First Sunday of the Month from 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM 

Outside at Oregon Trail Elementary School under the covered play ground

LES MILLS BODYCOMBAT™ is a high-energy, non-contact cardio workout inspired by martial arts such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, and Muay Thai. Set to motivating music, the class improves cardiovascular fitness, strength, coordination, and power while providing a fun, stress-relieving full-body workout—no experience required.

To participate in either class please download the Aspire Total Fitness app and create an account. From there, you can sign up for either class. A participant wavier must be signed.

Additional courses not currently scheduled:

DASH Into Wellness is course series using food demos and tastings  to learn about the foundation of the Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating patterns with simple to make recipes that support dietary management for elevated blood pressure and blood sugar, as well as supporting a healthy dietary pattern for most individuals. DASH eating pattern is a healthy, well-balanced diet that promotes an increase in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains that most healthy individuals would benefit from.
